Camping Activities & Adventures for Families

I’m not going to lie to you — I don’t do tents!

Sorry, there’s just something about a thin piece of material and the possibility of bears or snakes in the area that kinda freaks me out!

But family camping doesn’t always mean tents.  We’ve had some great vacations while ‘roughing it’ in a cabin.

Family Camping Activities

If there’s a solid door and an indoor bathroom, I’m a much happier camper 😉

I have this thing with bears & snakes — as in, I don’t want to sleep with them!

One BIG thing that I love about camping — the connection to nature!  We spent a week in a cabin this summer with NO tv, NO internet and horses & deer out our window.

Take along some of these free printable nature activities & scavenger hunts and the kids won’t even notice there’s no TV 🙂

Plus, there was a sleeping porch for the kids.

Now this is camping!

And all those things you see hanging on the wall?  Those are paper plates with drawings from each family that has stayed at the cabin over the years!  Instead of watching tv, we spent a few nights reading all the notes that were left over the last 30 years.

I also love the smell of a campfire and how you can wear the same clothes the next day and no one cares!  Playing cards in the evening and taking hikes during the day are big hits with our family too.

And the kids — their favorite part of camping would have to be the campfires!

Fun things to do when you go camping

And of course, the s’mores!

We have these awesome Super-long S’more Roasting Forks that we love for campfires!  You can cook 6 marshmallows at a time and they’re long enough that the kids don’t feel the heat from the fire.  We always bring them becuase you won’t believe how many campsites are so clean that it’s hard to find a good, long stick!

This week’s linky shares how to Discover & Explore Camping with your family!

You don’t have to go very far — even a tent in the backyard leads to lots of fun.

Have you ever tried camping in your own backyard?  The up side is the bathrooms are close by 🙂  Here are some tips & activities for backyard camping if you’re thinking of pitching a tent this year.
