Jacquie Fisher

Jacquie is the founder & owner of Edventures with Kids, a site that shares unique kid’s activities, fun ways to learn and inspriation for family travel. She is an experienced educator, with both a Masters in Education and an MPH degree and has a wide variety of expertise in developing programs for children, families & communities during her previous work at the University of Kansas.
She utilizes her past experiences as an educator, program coordinator and researcher to develop educational and fun kids' activities, parenting articles and creative learning ideas.

It’s June, which means sunshine, swimming pools and a special day for Dad!

When is Father’s Day this year? Don’t worry – you’ve still got time — it’s June 16th. And for the record, my Dad’s birthday is the same week so I’ve been browsing for some fun and unique gifts for a few of the special men in my life.

Now, my husband will tell you that the best gift any man could get would be an unlimited supply of bacon (and who am I to argue) but I was thinking of something better than bacon. Summer’s here! Those run-barefoot-read-in-the-hammock-eat-popsicles-outside kind of days that kids just love. But that doesn’t mean you can’t learn a little something too.

Summer is a great time to have kids master a new skill. Most kids (and families) will have a lighter schedule now that school’s out. And having a more laid-back schedule will allow the kids to focus on developing some new life skills or learning a skill they’ve shown interest in during the year.

My kids tell me I have been acting extra goofy this week.

Actually, we are quickly approaching summer and I am very happy about the prospect of the not-so-scheduled days and longer evenings to enjoy with the kids.

So this week, we grabbed a few supplies and started working on our Summer Bucket List.

Each year, we make a great list of all the adventures we’d like to have and fun things we hope to do together (plus a few things to learn too because during the summer, learning is always fun!)

And this is what we came up with –

One of my favorite things about having kids is reading book that I loved as a child.

I especially enjoy reminiscing with holiday books – they always bring back fun memories of the dressing up in our Easter finest, large family get-togethers and egg hunts around the house.
