When’s the last time your kid looked under a rock?
Fall is the perfect time to head outdoors and enjoy the foliage, the weather and time with each other!

This will be a 5 day series covering all kinds of tips and ideas for those fun family outings you want to plan this year.
I really want to help you get prepared for some great family trips this year by offering resources to help get you ready, along with new ideas for some cool places to visit!
I’m so excited to be joining more than 20 other kid bloggers to host a virtual (online) book club for kids! Really, it’s a book club for families – a great way to introduce kids to wonderful authors, quality books and fun activities.
Tell me if this sound familiar to you —
Me: You’re not wearing that to school?!
Kid: Mom, you said it was going to get warm.
Me (as I pull a jacket from the closet): Yes, GOING to get – it’s still 40 right now.
Kid: But it’s my favorite ______ (tank top, flip flops, shorts, skirt – why is it never anything warm?)
Me: Honey, just put on a sweatshirt or jacket so you don’t freeze at morning recess, PLEASE!
Yea – weekly conversation in our house especially once Spring hits. One day it’s 73 and then next day there’s snow again.
Today our Discover & Explore topic is Things that Go! This is always a favorite topic for young kids — cars, planes, boats, trains — anything they can ride, drive or fly. It’s always fun to take kids on a new adventure whether it’s their first train ride, flight on a plane or boat tour. …
I grew up back east where you could drive for an hour and reach the next big city. That’s not the case in the Midwest; the cities are farther apart and a day trip definately takes a whole day.
But boy are there some wonderful Midwest cities to visit!
With spring in the air and summer on it’s way, I thought I would ask some of my friends to share their favorite places around the Midwest.
It’s a great life skill for them to learn especially if you travel often (even if it’s only day trips or weekends away). Plus, vacations always see to run a little smoothier if everyone is hands-on from the get-go.
There will be a lot of reading going on over the next week –
World Book Day is March 1st
Read Across America (Dr. Suess’s birthday) is March 2nd
World Read-aloud Day is March 7th
Some people get excited when they win a prize or find money in the couch — I get excited about books 🙂
As a lover of kids lit, I adore finding ways to connect crafts, activities and real-life experiences to books. We use them when we travel, when we want to explore a new topic, as a way to stretch our creative thinking — there are so many possibilities.
Does your family enjoy going to the movies? We are big fans especially of family movies that we can all see together.
So we always like to look ahead and see what new movies are coming soon – you know, check out the trailers, see what’s worth seeing and read the book (if it’s based on one).
