Today for Discover & Explore, we are each sharing our favorite gift ideas for kids — and I get to share ideas for stocking stuffers!

I will admit when I first had kids and started helping Santa with the stockings, I needed to learn a thing or two.  There is an art to finding just the right items for the stockings — fun but useful, engaging but seasonal and something that Mom probably wouldn’t give to the kids (let’s face it, Santa is waaaay cooler than Mom).

We wanted to make something different for Halloween this year.  We’ve done bats and ghosts and pumpkins — lots of pumpkins!

So this Halloween, I decided to try some Mummy Garland!

I love it because it involves folding, tracing, cutting and creating — perfect for kids of all ages with lots of ways to practice fine motor skills.

I’m always so overwhelmed once the school year gets into full swing.  I think it’s coming off of those laid back summer days and then WHAM! — it seems like there’s hardly any time to relax.

One of our challenges is finding ways to mix things up to keep them fun during the school year.  The same old lunches can get boring very quickly.  Practicing spelling words and math facts is really a struggle unless you have some fun ways to keep the kids engaged.

This year, I’m thrilled to be part of the Kid Blogger Network Back to School team!  And we are all ready to help you get ready for a great school year with tips on organizing, homework help, school prep and more wonderful resources to help you ease back into school.

And then there’s all those new things the kids want to learn about — they learn a little about pengins in a science lesson and it leads to 50 new questions at dinner.  LOVE the questions but I always like to have time to explore those new topics with the kids WHILE they have that burning interest.

We are on countdown in our house — only 9 more school days left for us!

Yep, only 9 days, 4 finals, 3 school activities and 1 graduation event — then we can enjoy sleeping in, long days without schedules, fun day trips and some relaxing time to connect.

I do love summer!

Yes, some days are longer than others and the kids do get bored by mid-July — but we wouldn’t trade it for the world!
