Online October Book Club

It’s time to choose your book for the Virtual October Book Club!

You can learn more about our Online Book Club for Kids or visit our September book and activity for more fun ideas!  You can also connect with us on Facebook at the Virtual Book Club for Kids!

Our author this month is Amy Krouse Rosenthal.  She describes herself as “a person who likes to make things”.  To learn more about some of Amy’s great books, visit her YouTube channel to see some fun videos.

In addition to being a children’s author, Amy also hosted a great radio segment on National Public Radio (NPR).  She shared ideas for fun missions that people can do to make the world a better and more fun place!  Here’s a video to a great mission she did called “GraFEETi” – very inspiring!

I thought I’d give you an idea of some of her wonderful books – which will you choose?

Spoon

Spoon feels that he’s not the best utensil in the drawer and thinks the others have better jobs than him.  But what do the other utensils think?  A great story about life lessons and appreciating what’s special about each person (or spoon!).

This plus That: Life’s Little Equations

A beautiful and imaginative look at how some things in life add up to other amazing life experiences.  This is one of those books that conjures up wonderful memories and makes you think about what other ‘equations’ you might experience.

Chopsticks

Chopsticks is a great book about a pair of friends who one day are seperated and have to learn to get along without each other.  A wonderful story for any child who may have a friend whose moved away or ends up in a different classroom than a best friend at school.

Little Pea

Little pea needs to eat all his sweets if he wants veggies for dessert – but how will he eat something he doesn’t like?  A fun switch for kids – very entertaining and hard to read without a giggle or two!

Little Hoot

Little Hoot is an owl who wants to sleep at night – but Mom and Dad owl need to teach him to stay awake.  A fun flip to the age-old “I don’t want to go to bed” argument that kids will love!

One Smart Cookie: Bite-sized Lessons for the School Years and Beyond

What words of advice do you offer your kids when they go to school?  Whether it’s their first day of preschool or their last day of college, you’ll enjoy these ‘bite-sized’ words of wisdom that kids will carry with them.

Yes Day!

What would it be like if the answer to every question you asked was “Yes”?!  A fun book for starting a new family tradition with your kids!

Wumbers

What if all our words incorporated numbers?  A fun look at how we speak – kids will enjoy thinking about the words they use after this entertaining read!

And there’s so many more that Amy’s written — It will be tough to choose just one — you might want to read a few!  I’ll post the link-up with ideas for crafts and activities next week.

Happy Reading!!  ~ Jacquie
