I’ve got a secret to share with you today! I’m not really that organized during the summer 🙂 Ok, that’s not really it — the secret is in how I APPEAR to be organized on those crazy summer days. If you’ve been following The $0 Summer: 105 Ways to Make Memories with the Kids series, …
Summer Fun
When we got married, my husband and I moved half-way across the country and away from every relative we had. It was hard the first few years to not have all those family dinners and be there for all the holidays.
Then we had kids and realized that if we wanted to spend more time with our extended families, road trips were going to be a necessity.
Don’t you just love a day at the beach? The smell of the air, the warm sand and the hunt for shells — yep, that’s what I call some summer fun!
We had some wonderful beach activities shared at this week’s Discover & Explore linky and so many of them reminded me of fun beach books. So this week, I thought I would share our feature posts and link them to a great summer read for the kids!
Even though we only get the newspaper once a week, we always seem to have a pile of it lying around the house or tossed in the recycle bin. In fact, that was my inspiration for our DIY Eiffel Tower project! Why go out and spend money on building materials when you have some great …
Paint a t-shirt using heat from the sun — an awesome craft for teens & kids this summer! You know when you find those inspirational points where two seemingly unrelated things collide? Like frozen hot chocolate?! You think “Man, I’m not sure how that came together but it just works!” That’s what we have for …
Explore a little science at the beach with these fun activities! A day at the beach is what summer dreams are made of when you’re a kid — sandcastles, seashells and splashing in the waves. But there’s also quite a bit of learning that can be woven into your beach visit too. So grab a …
I’m a huge fan of kids lit! I know, no surprise there if you’ve read even a few of my posts. But even more, I’m a big lover of classic, vintage kids books — the really great stories that we all heard as kids or may have even been read by our parents & grandparents in their childhood.
It’s these amazing books that should still be read with kids today. So many of these stories were written with a message or moral, the illustrations are gorgeous and the text is poetic. And kids will adore them!
Try something new this summer by learning to kayak with your kids — we’ve got tips & inspiration for how to get started! This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Banana Boat® . All details & opinions are mine only. Every summer, we like to get out and try something new …
I’m a toss-the-kids-out-the-door kind of parent. Children (along with teens and adults for that matter) just don’t get enough time outside these days. I can remember enjoying some wonderfully long days climbing trees, skating, creating, digging & exploring.
But I grew up with siblings and neighbors that were all close in age. My daughter doesn’t have the luxury of playmates knocking at her door.
So lately I’ve been looking for ways to entice her to spend more time outside. Since she really enjoys crafts and also likes to be surprised, we decided to create an Outdoor Activity Jar.
Welcome back to our Summer Science series — today’s science theme is Geology!
This is a favorite area of science for kids for two reasons — explosions and digging 🙂
I don’t know about your house but in ours, there are rocks everywhere! I’m not kidding — on the science table, stacked up near the garden in the backyard, in the dryer (yep, it seems like every week I’m pulling rocks out of someone’s pocket).
What can I say, kids are attracted to rocks.
Since they’re going to collect the darn things anyway, why not spin it into some great hands-on learning 😉 Shhh…don’t tell them.
