You are going to LOVE me when you taste today’s post!
Seriously, it’s one of those “how did I not know about this sooner!” type of snacks 🙂
We were planning a family movie night this week — trying to decide whether to watch an old Muppets movie or find a newer flick to see — and the kids wanted popcorn (of course).
In case you’ve never tried it, we always make homemade popcorn and it’s the BEST!
Just heat a few teaspoons of oil in a large pot and once it begins to get hot, drop in a half-cup of popcorn seeds. Cover the pot and shake it back and forth over the heat until you have popcorn.
Here’ s my secret – use white popcorn kernels and EVOO (extra virgin olive oil). Really, it will taste great! And you won’t even need butter, just a little salt — plus it adds an extra level of ‘healthy’.
Ok, but back to the reason you are going to LOVE me —
Chocolate Drizzled Peanut Butter Popcorn
Since it’s summer and we have more time to do fun things, I thought we should try making a flavored popcorn for movie night.
Luckily, I had been surfing around the P&Geveryday website this week — looking for a few coupons and checking out their Home Organization section — when lo’ and behold, I found a great article for 10 Flavored Popcorn recipes.
So I thought I would let the kids choose one of them for us to make together.
Now, if you have kids, you know that they will NEVER in a million years agree on the SAME recipe. Even if they both WANT the same recipe, they’ll never admit it, right?!
There was a mixed response to what recipe we should try – maple bacon was mentioned more than once by my husband 😉
But after a few back and forths, we decided to combine two of the recipes – the Peanut Butter Popcorn with Chocolate Drizzle. My daughter told me it would taste like a peanut butter cup if we used them both.
My son wanted to learn how to make popcorn so he can do it himself when I’m not around. I’m all for that! As a side note, if you have a pot with a glass lid, they are perfect for making popcorn because you can SEE the kernels popping (it’s really cool!).
First we made the Peanut Butter topping and mixed it with the popcorn. Parents should be involved in heating up the ingredients but the kids will be able to help with all the mixing, measuring and pouring.
Then we added the chocolate drizzle over the top. You can find recipes for both types of popcorn on the P&Geveryday website.
We used natural peanut butter in our recipe and it worked great. I love that both recipes are so easy and the popcorn turned out AMAZING!
Doesn’t it look yummy…
And according to my daughter, it tasted “better than a peanut butter cup” 🙂
A big hit for family movie night.
