KC Edventures Guide for Ages 3-5

T-REX Cafe Featured

Come and dine with the dinosaurs at T-REX Cafe!  Take a picture with a huge T-Rex or Triceratops, visit the Shark Tank, dig up dinosaur bones in the sandpit and explore what it was like in prehistoric times!

Before Your Visit:

  • Prepare your child for the visit - there are life-size animatronic dinosaurs - they roar & move.  It's super cool but some younger kids may be a little frightened as first (bring a lovey if you think it will help).
  • Bring a camera - great photo ops!  You are welcome to explore the rooms (please be polite to other diners) to take photos with the dinosaurs.
  • There may be a wait during busy times so plan on letting the kids visit the Paleo Zone area or explore the outdoor waterfalls area.
  • Attend a Tour to get a "behind the scenes" look at T-REX:

    • Tours are FREE and offered before opening from 10 am - 11 am seven days a week.

    • Participants will learn about the sharks and fish in the tanks, learn about the animatronic dinosaurs and some of the 'special' features at the restaurant.

Explore T-REX:

  • Kids LOVE the Paleo Zone!  For a small admission ($2.50) kids can:
    • Spend time at the Dig Site finding dinosaur bones
    • Explore the gemstones and tunnels in Mining Mania
    • Play computer games on the Paleo Screens
    • For an extra cost, you can also play at Discovery Creek (mining for gemstones, minerals or fossils)
  • Stop by the shark tank and fish tanks to see who's swimming around.
  • Walk through the various rooms to visit the dinos who 'live' there - you'll find triceratops, T-Rex, a giant squid, Woolly Mammoth and more!  Each room has a special theme with amazing details to see.
  • Visit the Build-a-Dino® area to see how you can create your very own stuffed dinosaur!
  • Browse the HUGE Dino Store for all things dinosaur!  Maybe some Tar Pit Slime or a dinosaur puppet?  Pressed penny machines are available too!

Learn More:

Here are some great books that can be read before or after you visit:

"Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs" by Ian Whybrow tells the story of Harry, who find a bunch of dinosaurs in his Grandma's attic.  He cleans them up, names them and takes them everywhere -- until he leaves them somewhere by mistake.

"How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night?" by Jane Yolen is the first in a great series that looks at how dinosaurs might do things that kids do every day.  Make sure you also read "How Do Dinosaurs Clean Their Room" and "How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food" - lots of laughs!

"Dinosaur A-Z: For kids who really love dinosaurs!" by Roger Priddy is an alphabetical look at the dinosaurs with tons of facts for kids.
