Whether you're interested in art, history or culture - you can experience them all at the Nelson-Atkins Museum.  Download an audio tour and listen as you walk through the museum and sculpture garden.  Explore some of the works of art that were highlighted in your history or art class, or visit one of the many new exhibits.

Before Your Visit:

  • If you want to take pictures, please check the Museum's guidelines.
  • The Museum does allow visitors to bring pencils and sketch pads.
  • Check the museum calendar to learn about any special exhibits that you may want to see during your visit.

Explore the Nelson-Atkins:

  • Sculpture park is always expanding and has some great pieces of art - some of which may be familiar to you.  Visit the Interactive site to learn for a map and information about the pieces.
  • If you've taken an Ancient Civ. or World History class, make sure to see the Egyptian art (yes, there's a mummy), along with some interesting items in the Ancient Galleries (from Ancient Greece and Rome).
  • If you enjoy photography, make sure to visit the Photography galleries. 
  • Explore some of the paintings in the American Galleries - you will recognize some of the artists.  If you read the description plaques, you will also realize that some of the stories are connected to books you've read or history you have studied.
  • The Chinese Gallery has an amazing display of art and culture.  Make sure to use the online audio guide on your ipod or phone to learn some cool facts about the exhibits.
  • Visit the Creative Cafe to use their interactive computers to explore and create art.  There are also some fun exhibits that tie-in with other art around the museum.
  • If you get hungry, Rozzelle Court has some great snacks and cookies!
